Each Friday is a vocabulary test over the flashcards on quizlet (see Assignments and Due Dates).

Assignments and Due Dates
MSP Practice due every other day
Purpose: to practice efficient test taking techniques. On Mondays and Wednesdays students will be given a short practice passage with questions. They are due the next day. Here is the link for the quizzes:
Chi Chi Rodriguez Storm Watch ABC Book Project--approximately 3/25 (subject to change)
Purpose: Synthesize information from the novel; incorporate literary elements
Students use the ABC Book Plan Sheet to prepare and then make an ABC book on Nothing But The Truth following the guidelines provided. Pie Chart of Blame--due 2/12
Purpose: to synthesize multiple ideas, facts, and discussions
Students complete a pie chart showing the portion of blame they have assigned concerning the death of David Sharp on Mt. Everest. A full explanation of the apportioning must accompany the pie chart. Permission Slip--due 1/23
Purpose: to analyze an event from differing points of view

Everest Remains Deadly Draw for Climbers--due 1/15
Purpose: first read to gather information to prepare for analysis
Students should read and record thinking. At the end of reading fill out the four-square of additional thinking. Logic--due every Friday
Purposes: to help students practice inferential and deductive reasoning skills. Students are given one logic puzzle per night to work on. All logic puzzles are due on Friday. Every Friday there is a test over one of the puzzles.
Winter Break Assignment--due January 7th
Purpose: to build background information for the upcoming Mt. Everest unit
Students have a number of relatively fun ways to build background knowledge--everything from watching movies to "shopping" on-line! Make sure to use the attached pages as a guide for exactly what to do for each assignment. Book Interviews--due 12/14
Purpose: to engage students in self selected reading and increase discussion at home while teaching elements needed for MSP.
We've been working on this for quite a while. This is just a reminder that the projects are due on Friday and that only one interview per week can be turned in. "After 20 Years" Due 11/30 (Test)
Purpose: reading academic text.
Students will read the story and utilize the graphic organizer to remember how to read academic text. "The Lady or the Tiger" Read 2--due 11/20
Purpose: to support an argument with evidence from the text.
Students should completely read through the story again with a focus on supporting the claim that the tiger is what came out of the door. After reading and highlighting evidence students choose evidence and support the evidence with explanation. "The Lady or the Tiger" Read 1--due 11/9
Purpose: applying comprehension strategies to text in the common core text complexity band for 7th grade.
Students should apply all comprehension strategies to successfully achieve basic comprehension and literary analysis of the story. This should include chunking and annotating the text as instructed in class. The Most Dangerous Game Hunter Vs. Hunted--due 10/18
Purpose: for students to analyze the text for different perspective and support their analysis with textual evidence.
For this assignment, student are to completely re-read the story, this time with an eye for looking for evidence that Rainsford is both the hunted and the hunter. The successful student will go beyond the obvious events and include events that provoke thinking. |
