Purpose: To use textual support to argue and support analysis of text.
Students have picked a quote and will use the note guide or their composition notebook to reread the text searching for text details that support their quote selection and its relationship to the text. "The Monkey's Paw" Dialogue and Plot--due 10/17
Purpose to analyze how dialogue and events in the story provoke decisions, show character traits and drive plot.
"The Monkey's Paw" Mood and Tone--due 10/16
Purpose: to analyze word choice for how it helps develop mood and tone
"The Monkey's Paw"Comprehension--due 10/15
Purpose: To read difficult text to comprehension. Use strategies taught to overcome areas of difficulty:
*annotation *READ! *multiple readings *analyzing literary elements Theme re-do--due at end of "The Monkey's Paw"
Purpose: To continue working to be able to determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to characters, setting, plot and other literary elements.
Only student who choose to have to do this assignment. The grade will replace the theme test from "The Tell-Tale Heart" Students MUST complete the "Clues to Theme" sheet prior to being allowed to re-test. All re-testing MUST be done supervised in homework room. "The Tell-Tale Heart"--due 10/5
Purpose: to assess students' ability to identify theme and sow how it is developed over the story using short story elements.

There are a couple of places you can look if you need more help with theme. There are some great pages in our textbook. Just open the at home textbook and use the index to find places that theme is discussed. Also, you can use some of the additional resources in the online account to find other places that help with theme. You will also find a number of places on line that help with theme and finding theme. One site example is http://homeworktips.about.com/od/writingabookreport/a/theme.htm
